From the development stages for The Body Active through completion, every effort was made to recycle or reuse construction material, and to use products that are of a low impact to the environment.
Many materials from the preexisting space were donated to the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store. Lots of insulation, framing, and doors were reused in the new studio.
New materials in the studio consist of no VOC paint, native slate stone in the shower, Saltillo natural clay tile in the bathrooms and foyer, and renewable cork throughout the rest of the studio. Recycled rubber mats are used under the exercise equipment area.
All wood in the studio is from Forest Stewardship Council certified lumber. The retractable partition wall is made from recycled #5 plastic and sustainable harvested sea grass.
All lighting throughout the studio is a combination of natural light solar tubes, compact fluorescent, and LED fixtures.
